Fire Protection and EMS Services

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company (GEVFC) serves a population of over 27,700 located in approximately 6.76 square miles. The majority of Glen Ellyn is single family homes. The beautiful downtown district includes commercial retail in 2 to 3 story taxpayer buildings, multiple churches, and mid-rise multifamily residences. The Roosevelt Road corridor includes mostly 1 and 2 story commercial/light industrial businesses.

EMS services are provided via contract held by Village of Glen Ellyn with a 3rd party paramedic services company.

In 2017, the men and women of Glen Ellyn’s Volunteer Fire Company:

  • Responded to approximately 1,200 fire and emergency medial calls
  • Trained approximately 9,000 hours on Sunday mornings, Monday evenings, and online training
  • Earned a salary of $1.00 (for 300 hours of service)
  • Saved the taxpayers an estimated $6 million dollars

The GEVFC has a Class 3 Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification (PPC), which is in the top 8% of all fire departments in the United States (by 2017 ISO data).
